A tradition becomes a family tradition

Matt and I have always loved hiking at Devil's Lake and the surrounding areas. We got engaged there and it is one of the reasons we were married here. Beautiful, relaxing...

and a little difficult to plan when you live almost two hours away! We made some decisions we would change if we could do it over again (like having an obscene amount of food that no one ate because it was 90+ degrees that day!), but one thing we will never regret was our cakes! Yep, you read right, we had more than one cake...cause you know, I like options! {Now everyone, please pretend that the photo below has a really cool vintage effect on it and isn't the worst photo taken of a photo in an album you've ever seen!}

We had dinner here on our "engagement trip" and fell in love with their cakes! So at our wedding we had New York Cheesecake, Glorious Chocolate Cake, Cloud 9 Cake (tastes as good as it's name) and 2 Princess Cakes. As you may have guessed, the Princess Cake is my favorite (and not just because of the name).

Every trip we make, we head to The Cheese Factory for dessert...it's that amazing!

And this trip was no different. Well, except for one thing...we had our kids with us this time! We were at the waterpark for the weekend and realized that we were right next door to our favorite dessert...couldn't pass up that chance! So even though it was late (we stayed at the pool late, then did baths & pizza delivery...we headed out AT bedtime), we still thought it was worth it...

As the look on Jack's face shows, the kids thought we made a great choice too!

Unfortunately, the Cloud 9 and Princess Cakes are seasonal for summer! :-( But we were able to still have many awesome choices...we decided to share a seasonal strawberry cake, carrot cake, and the Glorious Chocolate Cake.

My children were not shy about digging in!

And they fell in love as fast as we did!!!

Livie mainly stuck to her Cheerios, but did eat a couple bites of chocolate & carrot cake (she spit out the strawberry...which was most of our favorite option).

It was really fun to share this part of our "history" with our kids. EJ was so disappointed that the Princess Cake wasn't there, that she is already planning a summer trip for our family to check it out. I hope she isn't surprised when she realizes it's not pink and doesn't have a tiara on top!

So good. But that Princess Cake keeps calling me. When are we going back?

In my world, cake is its own food group. *grin*

I popped over to thank you so much for your sweet comment on my recent post. You summed it up exactly... adopting because you are called to adopt is pleasing to God. Adopting to "save" the world... well... how sad for the child, who deserves to be loved and accepted in his or her own right, just because.
