Our "new" office

Our office redo is finally done (well, almost...still need to rearrange the photos and wall art to fit the new layout)! This is the view from the doorway...

Notes: See I told you guys how cool the pennant garland would look with the reading corner! Now to start on that second one for the wall above Jack's desk... And yes, it is kind of weird that I still have the photos I kept on my work desk on my home desk (and yes, they are the same photos). And yes, that Snow & Graham calendar on the wall is turned to July of 2009...but isn't it pretty?

The view from the back door (you can see the door to the back deck in the photo above), basically this is the opposite view...

Notes: Yes, my friends, that is a wet bar in the office. Weird, I know! It was there when we moved in and sadly, you cannot even see the beauty of the forest green paint matched with amazing 1970's mirror panels. It's just...lovely!

The major driving force behind this office redesign was to get Jack his own desk in my office. It was awesome to have him in here during naptime in the summer (something I'm really missing this last week) and it's just nice for him to have a place to write where his sisters can't get in his business. Here is his (arranged by Jack himself) desk area...

Notes: The FedEx envelope on the floor is full of copier paper (used on one side) for book-making. And yes, you do see a vacuum and a basket full of diapers on the other side of the desk. This is a multi-function room darn it!

While the desk has been in place all summer, organizing my craft supplies & stationery, moving the kids art supplies/coloring books/art project kits to a new locale, weeding out extra stuff (books, gift items, electronics & cords), etc. took me until about a week ago to finish! It was a lot more work than I bargained for!

Notes: All of those little bins (mini laundry baskets) are from the dollar store...love! Also, I still have 3 major organization projects (within their containers) - embroidery thread (needs to be spooled on cards), yarn (jack is sorting into ziplocs by color) and ribbon (anyone have any ideas on how to sort this...color, type, amount? i'm at a loss!)

Another view of the craft supply shelving. The small shelf on the back wall (left side of photo) holds my printer, paper, and office supplies.

Note: Anyone who knows me, knows I had to cut WAY BACK on office supplies! Boo!

And finally...the reading corner (the other big reason for this change)! Each child has a beanbag chair and a canopy. In the corner by the back door there is a small shelving unit with drawers that holds some board books for EJ and Olivia.

Note: Although it is SO cute, it would be wrong not to remind you that this was our Christmas present to the kids...finally completed over Labor Day weekend (we are so pathetic)!

They all love it...as a resting spot, an imagination spot, a spot to hang out after school and talk...

...and of course for it's main purpose of a reading spot!

I love that I'm now able to find my things easily, that I have an entire shelf devoted to stationery (shhh, don't tell Matt) and most of all, that my babies have a special spot to hang out with me in the office! It was a lot of work, but SO worth it!

I have had that canopy since Caida was tiny. I couldn't figure out a good place/use for them, but also didn't have the heart to get rid of it. The bar could be handy as an art sink if they do messy stuff in there...just my $.02.

I adore the reading corner! Kinda wish I had one of those myself :-) The office looks great and your big reveal comes at a very opportune time. I've been needed to organize ours for months and even before seeing this post, decided today was the day to start. Thanks for helping to keep me on task!

p.s. Love the tip on those mini laundry baskets from the dollar store!

I think every office should include a liquor cabinet. Hands Down. ;-)

Where to begin....Reading spots are brilliant. The dollar store bins--I'm on my way to find some! And I was inspired by your craft stuff. My craft cabinet is something I can never stay on top of. Nicely done!

Good work!! Isn't it the best feeling? And I too had the ribbon problem...so it's all just in one bin together, I don't know what else to do either!! Organization at its finest...I love it...now you have to keep it that way...:)

It does look cool. I'm thinking we might need to improve the lighting in that corner though. That's just my feeling without actually sitting there and testing it.

I love it all!

Your wall-o-organized-things makes me want to go home and just organize things!

What a neat spot for reading, too. It's like their own private nook.

I can not wait until Matt gets into that wet bar and hides under one of those canopies. Please take THAT photo when it happens...and it WILL happen. ;-)

Oh mY! I love it, Heather!!! What was the room prior to this? Love the wet bar. lol. Just give it a coat of white paint and it will blend in just fine :)
I have my ribbon organized 2 ways -- all of it is by color and within color, by shade (yes, anal). But my big spools are in one thing, and my smaller amounts are wound on the same cards I have embroidery floss on and in one of those clear boxes the cards go in. Know what I mean?
