My word of the year: 2011

{print available here}

My word for 2011 took a little while to find me (vacations tend to slow productivity a bit), but I am happy to report that I have decided on become. Now you might remember that I am completely anti-resolution. And we all know that resolutions are all about "becoming" something new or different than your current self (which may be why they are broken so often). So I'm using it a little differently...

I'm planning to spend this year focusing on becoming more of myself...owning who I am. I hope to let go of the guilt associated with making "unpopular" decisions (to others) if they are the right decisions for me. I plan to really focus on and develop areas of interest that are important to me. Honestly, I guess the easiest way to say it is that I plan to be true to myself in how I feel, the decisions I make, and how I interact with others.

I feel like this word really dovetails well into 2010's word enjoy too. Last year I worked to enjoy everyday moments...let go of the stress of what I wasn't doing, remember the small blessings, discover even more awesome things about the people around me. This year I plan to choose the activities, moments, and outlook that will help me become more like the person I have always been...inside.

I certainly hope this year's focus goes as well as last year. Because I haven't let go of enjoy at all...it worked so well, I'm keeping it in my back pocket for this year too!

This is going to sound a little crazy but this morning I was going to email you and ask you if you decided on your word...why the heck it is so important to me? not sure. But I love the word you picked and how it ties to last year!

wow. I've been considering adopting a word myself for 2011.... I think you may be on to something here!
(is it ok to poach someone else's word?)

Really good! I also like how it ties in with 2010's word. You could do some sort of collage with each year's word one day.

I just posted the story from my first day with the word. Thank you again. :)
