A Different Kind of Black Friday Shopping

{our tree, circa 2009}

After over 15 years of loyal service, our tree is going to need to be replaced.  It's such a good tree (whether they were being kind or not, many people have said they thought it was real), but it has literally been falling apart the past few years, so the time has come.

We are planning to go with a pre-lit tree because, let's face it, putting on Christmas tree lights is a special kind of torture.  I'm hoping that is a good choice.

But my biggest problem right now is where to find an affordable tree (remember, we are a super cheap family) that you can't see through (I saw several at Target with about 15" between branches).  We bought our last one at a garden store in Illinois.  I'm wondering if that is where we need to go again...the garden centers around here?

I guess the plus side is that there shouldn't be any Black Friday craziness at the garden store.  At least I hope not!

Why not try Stein's or Mileager's?
They have plenty of very pretty, pre-lit trees. I even saw some at Home Depot.

We got a really nice one (pre-lit and tall and poofy enough) at Lowe's last year. I think the price was pretty reasonable, too.

Ha Ha...you'd think those stores wouldn't be crowded but they are :) Not quite like the malls but seriously, every store is busy that day...you should definitely venture out and try it!! I have seen nice ones at lowe's, menards and home depot for decent sales...especially on friday. michael's? i'd shy away from walmart or target... i can always keep my eye out for you when i'm out at midnight!!

Why have I never seen this picture? OMG, Olivia is hysterical!

The good thing about space between the branches is room for ornaments to hang properly. I would say hit Stein Garden - they always have nice ones.

A pre-lit tree is definitely the way to go. I bought mine a few years ago at Kmart and it has held up very well, no problems with the lights. The ones at Lowes are very reasonably priced.

We have a great selection at our local garden store... they can be expensive but often times they'll run some great sales if you keep an eye out! Especially with a pre-lit tree though... definitely don't go with the cheapest or you'll end up buying another one in a couple years!

A pre-lit is the only way to go. I am still fighting the lights every year. Good luck with your search. Your picture is so sweet! Such cute kids!!
