Work-in-Progress Wednesday 8

This could possibly be the worst WIP photo ever.  Sorry...the nuts and bolts of the week is I started a new memoir, I moved on to season 5 and I've started a frog.   I've also completed two other projects, but they are gifts so they are top secret for a bit (but I really like both of them).

The big news of this week is that there is a major yarn sale happening at a certain national retailer this week and on Friday I will be able to purchase skeins of Vanna's Choice for about $1.50 each.  So, of course, I'm making a list of gift projects for birthdays and Christmas.

I'm also planning to buy a bunch to make scarves, hats and mittens to donate to a few charity organizations in our area for homeless adults and kids in need.  So I'm looking for simple patterns that I can hook up quickly but that will be warm and cozy too.  Here is my starting list...

I have one more day before the sale to make final decisions so I really need your help!  What are your favorite simple and quick patterns for cold weather gear (hats, scarves, mittens)?

Joining up with Yarn Along at Small Things & WIP Wednesday at Tami's Amis.

That memoir looks so interesting, I'll probably go to the library today! (My parents grew up in Roman Catholic families in South Louisiana so I'm sure I will relate.)
for gift knitting this year I'm drawn to the Jacques Cousteau Hat:

and the Howlcat:

Clearly I can't help you with patterns but I can tell you that I am excited to see that frog and hope that maybe one of your creations ends up in our house this year :) If I could crochet I'd be fighting you at the store on friday :)

How sad is it that I can't think of a single simple pattern? Major brain freeze! I'll come back if I can think of anything useful to contribute, but for now, I'll just say, "Frog! Eep!" :)

It's funny you mention quick cold weather accessories. I just made a list about a week ago of I think about 6-8 (can't remember off the top of my head) hats, scarves, cowls and all around quick accessory projects that I want to complete so I have little things on top of all my big projects. That list wasn't even the beginning of hats/scarves that I want to do, I need to add to it!

The 5th Avenue Cowl is super simple, and really nice as an FO.

Do you ever sell the things you make? Because I LOVE MITTENS (my husband makes fun of me) and those mittens with the star on them made me gasp out loud.

So, you know, I would totally buy a pair if you made them. :)

I like that hat! Wouldn't mind that staying at our house. :)

Those are some of the nicest crochet patterns I've seen for Charity Knitting, so I don't have any helpful recommendations. Cute frog pattern; thanks for the link!

Can't wait to see your frog! That sounds super cute.

Some of my favorite quick knits are hats. I'm not really into knitting scarves these days, though one year I made a brioche ribbed scarf and it's pretty much my favorite scarf ever. The ribbing is nice and dense but also plush--pretty much no matter the yarn.

I really like the hat I'm knitting right now: the rikke hat and the grace lace beret. If you want to knit gloves, Bella's mittens are cute as well.

I think it's great of you to make warm things and donating to the homeless shelter.

I am wondering where the great sale is being held at. Love the idea of making stuff and donating it. :)

I've made very few winter things, but I've recently finished some hand warmers, and they're easy. They're on Ravelry - called Easy Fingerless Mitts, by Roxanne Richardson.

Thank you for stopping by!
